The project funded by the USAID program SCHEP (Sustainable Cultural Heritage through Engagement of local communities Project) and implemented under the umbrella and scientific supervision of the American Center of Oriental Research (ACOR) and the Department of Antiquities of Jordan (DOA) offered training opportunities in CRM at the Temple of the Winged Lions within the Petra Archaeological Park in southern Jordan.
Sela trained 67 technicians (young men and women between 18 and 40 years) from the host communities in the region of Petra in different aspects of CRM.
The on-the-job training consisted of theoretical and practical classes in documentation, archaeological excavation, conservation, landscape rehabilitation and site presentation.
Sela engaged the host communities through a series of public events onsite and offsite for families and community’s stakeholders.
Within this project, Sela began developing a database to manage and promote this network of experienced technicians.
